Hadjod – A boon for bones

Hadjod (Cissus quadrangularis) or bone setter is a fleshy plant that is grown in warm regions of India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. It is popular for its fracture-healing properties due to the presence of antioxidants such as vitamin C, phenols, tannins, and carotenoids in it. In older people, bone fractures are very common due to the reduction in bone mass and density. It is believed to have helped many older individuals in healing their fractures along with other medicinal benefits.

How does Hadjod work Hadjod is high in vitamin C content, which helps in the growth of bone cells and the absorption of calcium, as well as the enhancement of other vitamins that aid in bone formation. It also helps in the healing of fractured bones by maintaining a delicate and healthy balance between bone restoration and bone creation.

Functions of Hadjod

A few functions of Hadjod include:

  1. Healing bones: It helps in the quick healing of fractures in individuals of any age.
  2. Strengthening bones and muscles: It is helpful in strengthening the musculoskeletal system of the body.
  3. Building the body muscles: It is helpful in body building due to the presence of vitamin C which is vital for collagen formation.

How is Hadjod helpful in the elderly As people age, their physical and emotional capacities deteriorate, lowering their quality of life. The bones in the elderly grow brittle and fragile, making them prone to fractures. This is attributed to a decrease in bone mass and density in the elderly. Hadjod, a natural supplement for bone-related problems, is frequently recommended in older persons to assist them in preserving bone strength and mass. Hadjod is thought to offer many other medicinal qualities such as anti-bacterial, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory properties, etc., in addition to the bone healing property. Besides, due to the numerous benefits it provides, it is well-recognized to be a bone medication, since it has been observed to reduce the healing time of bones in individuals on a large scale.

Side effects of Hadjod Hadjod does not have any significant side effects. However, if these appear, they may be usually mild and only seen in a few people. These typically resolve within a day or two of onset.
